The Sweetheart Swindle Is Out in the Wild

There is a particular sort of delight in seeing a book leave the desk, cross the invisible bridge into the world, and turn up somewhere we did not place it ourselves.

The Sweetheart Swindle has started doing exactly that.

Readers have begun sharing photos of the paperback out in the wild: tucked beside coffee cups, held up in good lighting, settled into real homes with real bookshelves and, if we are lucky, the occasional supervisory cat. It is one thing to know a story is available. It is another thing entirely to see it living a small physical life in someone else’s day.

That is the magic of paperbacks, I think. They gather evidence. A bent corner. A bookmark peeking out. A little travel dust. A cat hair that may or may not have been authorized by management.

For a mystery about secrets, scams, and a widow who keeps noticing what everyone else would prefer she ignore, this feels wonderfully fitting. Margot Slade was never meant to stay quietly on one shelf. Neither, apparently, was Margin.

If you have a copy of The Sweetheart Swindle and feel like sharing where it has landed, we would love to see it. Porch railings, rainy windows, bookstore bags, beach towels, knitting baskets, suspiciously occupied reading chairs: all excellent habitats.

You can tag us on socials, or send a photo through the contact page. Reader photos make the whole thing feel less like launching a book into fog and more like hearing a cheerful voice call back from the other side.

Thank you for giving this paperback a place to land. We are grateful, amused, and only slightly concerned about what Margin will demand now that she knows the book is being photographed.

Have a photo of The Sweetheart Swindle in the wild? Send it our way. We may, with permission, feature a few favorites in a future update.
